What to do in Jakarta..

November 15, 2007

People from the states often ask me on what places should they visit while spending their vacation in Jakarta. They would ask me about places that offer something different, basically places that don’t resemble anything like the states (not just some lame mall that would remind them of the states). Make sure you have a guide accompanying your trip through jakarta; it would really be more convenient…

Tagline: Cheap, Safe, Fun, nothing like the states

1. Taman Mini Indonesia Indah (TMII) <Indonesian culture & heritage park>

2. ITC – Kuningan <Pirated CDs & DVDs heaven>

3. Mangga Dua <huge shopping place>

4. Kemang <food>

5. Jalan Surabaya <antiques>

6. Jalan Jaksa <expats fav hangout>

7. Ancol <recreational park>

8. X2 <club>

9. Puncak <mountain area near jakarta>: https://jakartatravelinfo.wordpress.com/for-rent-villas-in-kota-bunga-puncak/

TMII

First time visiting Indonesia? TMII is the place to go. This park offers abundant information regarding all of the different & exotic cultures of every tribe in Indonesia. Clothes, Food, Houses.. you name it. Its all for show at TMII.

If you ask around in jakarta, many people will suggest different locations for purchasing illegal copies of cds & dvds (just bcoz they are illegal, that doesn’t mean they are hard to find). But i personally would advice on two locations:

ITC Kuningan & Mangga Dua mall.

ITC Kuningan

ITC kuningan is a smaller version of Mangga Dua. They sell similar stuff. ITC – kuningan sells a variety of items, but pirated CDs & DVDs is the hallmark of this place. If you would just like to buy CDs & DVDs, ITC Kuningan is the right choice, bcoz this place is a lot more organized and is located in Jakarta’s “Kuningan” business district. CD software, new hollywood movies, Beyonce’s latest album; it’s all there for a half dollar each!

Mangga Dua Mall

But if you intend to shop not only CDs & DVDs, you should go to Mangga Dua Mall. With many malls connected together (Mangga Dua mall, ITC Mangga Dua, Pasar Pagi Mangga Dua, Dusit Mangga Dua), Mangga Dua is a great place to find brand name knockoffs, electronics, toys, cheap clothes, cds & dvds. You could spend all day here shopping.

Kemang

This is an area packed with different restaurants. There are so many restaurants I couldnt even name all of em here..!

Jalan Surabaya

An old statue, an antique lamp; jalan Surabaya is the place for antiques.

Jalan Jaksa

This narrow street is filled with bars and pubs for the expats of Jakarta.

Ancol

Located on the northern tip of Jakarta, Ancol is equipped with a variety of activities. Beach, SeaWorld, Dufan theme park, Atlantis water park, Marina, an art market are some of Ancol’s attractions. There are also accommodations spread around the complex.

X2

X2 is in Plaza Senayan, central Jakarta. This is THE club to go to…

I will soon publish pictures and directions towards these places of interest. I hope it is useful! I would be glad to answer any questions, just leave a comment or email to jakartaarchery@gmail.com
